Creating Portraits in the Park

General Workshop Information:

This is a 5 hour photography workshop is offered at Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton area parks and arboretums. This is great workshop for amateur, semiprofessional and professional photographers. Using a combination of short lectures and demonstrations our instructors will guide students through how to create professional quality portraits on location. Students will use their cameras with the help of one of our instructions to create portraits during the workshop. The instructor(s) will demonstrate every topic and then work with students and answer questions as they practice.

Students who wish to bring a model MUST contact us for approval at least 7 days prior to the workshop. Anyone without prior approval from the instructor will NOT be permitted to participate or attend this workshop.

Course Topics Include:

Course Requirements:

A dSLR (digital SLR) camera or mirror-less interchangeable lens camera and 1 or more lenses. No point & shoot cameras or cell phones are permitted. If you are uncertain if your camera is correct for our Portrait in the Park workshop, please contact us with the brand and model of your camera.

At least one lens. Generally speaking a short telephoto lens is best for individual portraits and a wider lens for group shots. If your camera is a full frame model 80mm to about 135mm is great! If you have an APS crop sensor, 50mm to 90mm are great choices. For both full frame and crop sensor cameras lenses from 20mm to 35mm are generally good for group shots in this workshop. Both zoom and prime lenses will both work well for this workshop. If you are unsure about which lens or lenses to bring please contact us and we will be glad to help you select a lens or lenses to bring. If you do not have a lens in the above mentioned focal lengths please please contact us.

Desire to learn.

The ability to use your camera in the Aperture Priority/Aperture Value exposure mode.

The following items are NOT required but can be helpful, please do not purchase them just for this workshop:

A flash if you have one.

Reflector and/or diffuser if you have them.

Polarizing, Neutral, Softening, Density Filters if you have them.

A printed manual for your camera - if you have one please bring it.

Pen & small notebook to take notes.

A sense of humor will help make the workshop more fun.
